How payment reminders work
You do not have to chase your money by phone. As soon as an invoice passes its due date, the reminders go out automatically.
The three reminders
- From 3 days late: a friendly first reminder.
- From 14 days late: a second, firmer reminder.
- From 30 days late: a final notice.
- Each step happens only once. Your customer never receives the same reminder twice.
What the email says
The reminder goes out in your customer's language, not in yours. The pdf of the invoice is attached, so your customer does not have to dig through an archive first.
If the invoice carries a payment link, that link appears as a button in the email. If there is no payment link, the email shows your account number with the amount and the invoice number.
The invoice itself switches to the status Overdue, so you can see at a glance where things are stuck in your list.
When no reminder goes out
- The invoice has been paid or cancelled, or is still a draft.
- There is no email address on file for your customer.
- A direct debit is still scheduled. Your customer does not have to do anything in that case, so a notice would be unfair.
What you may claim afterwards
On the invoice page on the web, a late invoice shows the block What you may claim. It lists the outstanding principal, the statutory interest for the days the invoice is late, and the collection costs according to the statutory scale. You only see this block on the web, not in the app.
With a business customer you may charge those collection costs straight away. With a private customer you first have to send a free reminder with a fourteen-day term. This is the fourteen-day letter that Dutch law requires before you may charge collection costs to a private customer (veertiendagenbrief), and the button Send 14-day notice takes care of it.
The interest rates TELMAAR uses are the national standard. If yours differ, you can set them yourself under Settings and then Company.
